Cisco History & Size


History:-
  The married couple of Len Bosack and Sandy Lerner used to work in Stanford University as staff members of computer operatives established Cisco in 1984 after Nicolas Pham joined them (Wikipedia, n.d.). The name Cisco was chosen from the city name of San Francisco according to Wikipedia, n.d. The first CEO in Cisco system was Bill Grave who took the position between the years 1987 and 1988, and then John Morgridge was appointed as CEO in 1989, also Cisco’s first product was multiple-protocol router software (Wikipedia, n.d.).
  Between the late 1990-2005 which had a tremendous growth of the internet and as the internet protocol became widely used, the importance of multi-protocol routing decreased and became of less importance to enterprises and such changes made Cisco manage to follow the internet wave and produced products such as modem access shelves (AS5200) to core GSR routers that rapidly became very important to Internet service providers (Wikipedia, n.d.). However, with the dot com boom in late march 2000, Cisco became the most valuable company in the world and its market capital was up to $500 billion and it's still one of the most 
valuable companies till now (Wikipedia, n.d.).

Size of the company:-
  Cisco system has more than 60,000 employees, with a net income of $6.49 billion and yearly revenue of $43 billion in 2011. Cisco serves the whole world and has offices worldwide (Wikipedia, n.d.). Moreover, Cisco is divided into five main branches worldwide according to the geographical location: European Market-United States and Canada-Asia and Pacific-Emerging Markets and Japan (The New York Times, 2012).
